This blog is about families. It is about finding and creating families within donor circles. It is about my son's donor siblings, our relationship with their parents and about parenting in general.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
I've always been a fan of Valentine's Day. What is there not to like about a day that celebrates love? Even in my single years I thought it was nice to just treat myself. You have to love yourself before you can love someone else, right? Although I have celebrated my share of Valentine's days just two of them stick out in my memory. One of my fondest memories of this day was fifteen years ago when my partner Kandace made me a mix tape of some of her favorite love songs. Yes, it was an actual tape and not a CD. It was ironic since I was the disc jockey and was the one usually doing mix tape making. It was one of the sweetest things anyone had ever done for me. It was our first Valentine's and our first holiday as a couple and that made it extra special. She also gave me a picnic basket complete with plates, wine glasses, a cutting board, silverware, a blanket and a book of Sonnets by Shakespeare. I will never forget how thoughtful that gift was. My other fond memory happened five years ago. We were scheduled to have the ultrasound to find out the sex of our baby on Valentine's Day. When the technician said the words "It's a Boy" I jumped and shouted for joy so loud they heard me on the third floor. It was already going to be a special day and then it became extra special. Even though I would have been happy for a girl I was really hoping for a boy. So today, I celebrate not only finding the love of my life but celebrating the love of being a parent to a very special boy. We don't go out on Valentine's Day anymore. We pick up food and have dinner together at home as a family. I feel that is the best way for me to celebrate Valentine's Day. With the two people I love most in this world. Happy Valentine's Day Kandace and Alder. I love you both very much.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
I find it ironic that I resolved to actually start this blog today. It was 15 years ago, in 1998, on New Year's Eve that my partner Kandace and I were getting ready to party like it was 1999. She was just coming out of a relationship and I was about to end mine. Even though we were in the same place but not actually together, I knew that our beginning was just around the corner. Much like this blog. It has been in and on my mind for years now. So please stay tuned and find out how this long journey began. Where it has led us. And how and why the name of this blog is 4 Moms, 2 Brothers and Charlee Grace.
